Preface
It was a great experience, for me, to meet Dr. Hung Ching Yu (Yu Hsi) at the Breeze Pavilion by the east coast of Formosa Taiwan. Our first meeting was at the President’s House (Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, India) in the year 2007. I composed a poem to celebrate the genius of Dr. Yu Hsi at that time. Later we met at the Poets’ Meet at Chennai (in the state of Tamil Nadu, India). Our friendship blossomed from that day to a creative alliance. Dr. Yu Hsi and I are bonded in a mutual admiration of the poems and the concern for happy societies. Though we come from two different cultures, there is a beautiful harmony in our thoughts. Our friendship was further strengthened with several intellectual meetings in India and Taiwan. Dr. Yu Hsi brought out a great poetic book – The Metaphysical Traveler, on me, which is the confluence of two poetic minds. The translation of Thirukkural, a Tamil Classic, to Chinese language is indeed a remarkable contribution by Dr. Yu Hsi.
Oceans Meet: Glad Tidings of Poetic Life brings out the waves of poetic minds, literary thoughts, dreams and purity of life of two friends across oceans. Oceans Meet presents how we can evolve a peaceful, happy and society of ethics leading to global happiness and prosperity, for which the youth of the world will be the greatest intellectual resource on the earth, above the earth and under the earth.Oceans Meet: Glad Tidings of Poetic Life brings out the waves of poetic minds, literary thoughts, dreams and purity of life of two friends across oceans. I wish my friend, Dr. Yu Hsi, a great poetic life in service to the society and global peace through poetry, music, literature and above all the positive energy that his work emanates into the Universe.

2007
My garden smiles,
Welcoming the spring,
Roses, beautiful roses,
With fragrance and beauty,
Ringing tunes of the honey bees
Lovely scene, everywhere
My garden smiles.
The enchanting scene entered into me
blossomed happiness in my body and soul.
Variety of roses,
One lovely family of roses,
Presiding the dynamic scene,
With pleasant fragrant breeze,
My garden smiles.
All the roses fully blossomed towards the sky
It was a miracle to see.
A pleasant beautiful voice
Echoed from rose family,
O’ my friend, look at the sky,
I saw the miracle of
The shining moon in formation
And the powerful venus very close
To each other belonging to the our galaxy.
The scene was indeed rare celebration,
Of heavenly bodies and roses of earth,
I looked above and roses of my garden,
I looked above saw the Milkyway,
I looked around the garden,
Roses, roses and roses.
This unique festival of lights and beauty
Why, why, why, this unique scene.
This graceful event
In my garden first time,
My garden smiles.
Then the sweet music
Engulfed the scene all around
Emanating from garden
“It was the celebration of
flowers and heavenly bodies,
in honor of visit of poetic soul,
of our galaxy milkyway,
Yu Hsi a universal friend,
Of creative mind.”
Crossed many seas, to be with us
Welcome my friend from shining heavenly bodies,
Beautiful roses and divine music
My garden smiles.

■Prabhūtaratna
was awarded the Golden Tripod Award for Creative Literature Publication by the Government Information Office under the Executive Yuan.
Comments by the judges: “With a fairytale tone, the author tells a beautiful story of eternally seeking the ideal world. He portrays vividly every aspect of human spiritual realms and conveys the purport that ‘truth and beauty coexist’.”
Prabhutaratna
of 1995 described a story of ‘the coexistence of truth and beauty.’
It narrated the seven factors that activate our life journey :
earth, water, fire, wind, space, sight and perception.
The novel illustrated the seven factors
and basic structure of cosmos in vivid dramatic form,
and finally reached the fulfillment of ‘Buddha’s habitat’
just as rivers and streams run into the ocean.
This ‘Buddha’s habitat’ is, in other words, ‘Prabhutaratna.’
Stone Mirror
The stone mirror is the field of the mind. Now, this atom enclosing a scripture is a stone; it’s that very same stone mirror, and the scripture it encloses is the jade mirror that it turns into. Hundun originally has no apertures, and if you drill them into him, he is sure to die. By contrast, the stone mirror does have apertures, and these are the secret treasury of three points. the aperture of wisdom, which is the luminous and perfectly pure childlike mind which is what returns to our true home; and the aperture of liberation, which is the faith and confidence which gives us the courage and strength to actually follow the path all the way back to our true spiritual home. The attainment of samadhi is like installing in the mind a mirror of incomparable and eternal brightness, which illuminates all sentient beings and fills their hearts with joy.
Chan Mind
The chan mind is what conveys the worldling into the world of the saint. Meditation is the practice by which we realize the state of mind characterized by peace and purity. Meditation means the cultivation of the mind in such a way that we gain possession of the sword of the vajra king which cuts thru all contradictions and impediments, so that we obtain the three supports: the support of supernatural powers; the support of the power of the Dharma; and the support of a wise teacher. But whatever sort of meditation we practice, the purpose is still the attainment of samadhi. And the purpose of samadhi is to install an eternally bright mirror in the mind, what’s called “entering samadhi and shining,” which was the state in which the Buddha taught the Lotus Sutra.

Yu Hsi’s first novel. With simple and earnest word images, Yu Hsi delineates this novel that is rich in childhood joy and innocence. It records a joyous path towards eternal truth. By deploying a highly intelligent writing technique, this allegorical novel has the circle of the four seasons (spring rejuvenation, summer prosperity, autumn harvest, and winter storage) reflecting the circle of human life (birth, growth, mellowness, and a consummate life). This book probes into the eternal original hometown of human spiritual life and the dream-seeking journey of the self, resembling a deja vu hometown ballad.

Yu Hsi, born in 1951, reveres Nature, enjoys traveling, and is an accomplished photographer, musician and writer who has been producing original work for over thirty years. His works are steeped with romantic character and musical spirit. Weaving his way through abundant emotion and graceful philosophy, Yu Hsi thus depicts the diversity of humankind. He has drawn from profound Eastern philosophy and the graceful and masterful use of language in classical literature to create a modern style that is characterized by freedom. It has become a form of higher knowledge and aesthetics of artistic life. Over the years, while Yu Hsi has focused primarily on poetry, he has concurrently been working on his novels and original stage dramas. This sprouting poetic emotion and artistic creativity inspires us to search for knowledge and utilize our senses so that through the pure and sincere sound of a forgotten music, we can once more return to simple truths. In this way, our complicated lives can achieve a renewed simplicity and order. Yu Hsi’s fable-style literature utilizes symbolism’s sensibilities (namely, the language of poetry). Indirectly, he brings to light the innate profound mystery within each of our beings. People will then learn to reconcile their inner hearts with their outer appearances to form a beautiful and harmonious whole. The reason Yu Hsi has been awarded so many honors in Taiwan and abroad is because of his outstanding music and poetry and his vivid exploration of those layers of life which are hidden from view.
So far, Yu Hsi has published over seventy books. More than sixty composers have been involved in his work and more than one hundred CDs have been released. The total length of his music performances is around seven thousand three hundred minutes. Thirty multimedia plays have been written. The total number of stage performances reaches almost three hundred. The number of his awards is more than sixty. His works have been translated into a number of languages, including English, French, Spanish.
The majority of his works are novels and poetry, within which can be found the spirit of poetry. Yu Hsi’s Eastern philosophy abounds, as does his reverence and respect towards life. His poetry seeks to awaken people’s pure emotion and innermost uncontaminated nature. He continues to uphold his dream of cultivating culture and fine art by devoting himself to a life of creation. He hopes to draw upon the fundamental strength and purity of literature as well as its rich and encompassing melody. The scope of Yu Hsi’s original works extends to cover a gamut of categories: novels, poetry collections, photography, magazines, poetry & painting books, comic books, music albums, live fine arts performances, multimedia, and DVDs. These works make up the sum of Yu Hsi, the artist.
As an Eastern philosophical poet, Yu Hsi’s literary works are imbued with dense Eastern philosophy and poetic depictions of Nature; they reveal the profound essence of human life. His novels follow the phases of human life. His poetry collections delineate the ultimate beauty of life through images of compelling landscapes. Through transcendental rationale he unbinds the fettered hearts of modern people and allows them access to their previously obstructed creativity. Thus, the clouds will part, allowing us to return to our shining potential
and free will. These are the distinguishing features of his literary works. With an unpolluted romantic spirit and always striving to produce new original ideas, Yu Hsi is able to naturally make use of nature’s radiance and hidden inner strength. He draws from the richness of Eastern philosophy to create the bands of a literary rainbow to display before the eyes of the world’s people. In winter 2001, after a beautiful unexpected chance occurrence, the poet found himself swimming in his mind, faced with a magnificent and beauteous work of Eastern philosophy, spanning the earth and the sky. This would become “109.5° Prasrabdhi—The Luminous Purple Scroll of Crystalline Diamonds.” Shortly in two years, this glorious masterpiece of a series, including 111 scrolls of long-form poetry, was completed.
Yu Hsi’s works include novels, The Purple Gold-wrought Robe, Prabhūtaratna, Amṛta, Dhvaja, and 17·23 Seven-night Waiting. A short novel, The Heavenly Drop with the Essence of the Universe. Poetry collections, Collection of Yu Hsi’s Poems I, The Impish Stone Teases the Spring, The Joy of Affection, Ekaika-rasa, Frosty Night, One Color Less, Kalā, Ālaya & mano-vijñāna, Pisces Play with the Moon, The Rabbit is Pregnant, The White Horse Enters the Reed Catkins, The Fifth Watch Silver Candlelight, and Ūrṇā-keśa. Long-scroll poetry, East Manuscript Verses, South Manuscript Verses, West Manuscript Verses, North Manuscript Verses, Central Manuscript Verses, Manuscript Verses of the Firmament, Southwest Manuscript Verses, Northwest Manuscript Verses, Manuscript Verses of the Earth, Northeast Manuscript Verses, and Southeast Manuscript Verses. Literary picture books, The Dream-like Ocean, The Glorious Lotus, The Moonlight Ancient Mirror, and The Song of Glory.
Poetry is the world of language that distils the essence of our hearts. Poets are the transmitters of resplendence. Yu Hsi has said: “Poetry is at the center of human spirituality. It passes down the sincere conversations of human beings, their breaths, and their pulsations. In this way, poetry fashions illimitable nuances and subtle wits. Thus, the poet is the most beauteous and dignified human being in the universe.” Yu Hsi’s poetic heart is like a sky of twinkling stars, containing most beauteous and radiant music. It draws from a diverse multiplicity of media to create a picture of beauty and radiance, a procession of stars in the universe. His poetry, novels, music, video, multimedia, and stage dramas bring overflowing and true splendor and peacefulness to the world. “Let us enter the new space of the moon and the stars in a new world. Together, let us set alight a thousand candles to illuminate the galaxy. For the sake of humanity, make a world of peace, happiness, and blessedness.” This is Yu Hsi’s dream.
■ 詩 人 Poet
Swift are the Impressionists when they capture lights and shadows. Similarly, if your heart can feel the movements of the waves, you can then discern their rhythm; if your mind can imagine the texture of the meadow, you can then feel its softness... Yu Hsi’s writing is rich in creativity and yet simple and unsophisticated. The way he describes the richness and broadness of the world, the vicissitudes of solar terms and the mystery of stars and the universe not only is lyric for lyric’s sake, but also shows a sort of free enlightenment. His writing provides a new viewpoint: applying “the profound journey of the inner spirit” as the axis to describe multifacetedly the eternal dreamland that people desire.
■ 小說家 Novelist
Novelist Yu Hsi’s goal is to excavate freedom of the soul. He philosophically interprets adventures of one’s inner character, romantic encounters, and other enchanting elements in life, and creates philos-sophos allegorical novels that “chat cordially” with the original hometown of our souls.
■ 攝影行者 Photographer
Since 1980, Yu Hsi has been working in the field of photo-graphy and trying to search for the true “I.” Through his minute and ingenious observation, Yu Hsi perceives the free aesthetics of the objects around him, and is able to interpret the images of dreams between the Milky Way and the sea. His works record the transformation of creatures’ lives, the movement of Time... The world under his lens generates curiosity, broadness, admiration...and profundity.
■ 製 作 人 Producer
In his early years, Yu Hsi studied diligently in the field of philosophy, and has since realized that if he could transplant the philosophy of superior life wisdom into modern people’s art life, he might make people feel content, joyous and refined deep inside. It is now his goal to express profound wisdom in the form of fine literature and convey it gracefully with the help of spiritual tunes, so that people, through this new centurial Eastern music rich in its philosophical sentience, might hearken to the sounds that truly belong to the consonant souls.
■ 策畫·導演 Director
On the spiritual summit of the new century, meditating on Eastern intelligence and wisdom, Yu Hsi is turning the dharma wheel for the contemporary and leading arts and culture. Under his guidance and promotion, brilliant and colorful poetry, chants, music, paintings and drama integrated with high-tech computer technology, bring forth manifold elaborate and creative multimedia arts, poetry concerts, and performing arts to be presented on the stage of the National Concert Hall and National Theater Hall. Such distinguished and outstanding art pushes forward novel thinking and fresh enlightenment for a great artistic life!
●On November 5, 2015, Dr. Yu Hsi, host of the XXXV World Congress of Poets, lighted up the world peace lamp under laser lights and music sound effects. Next day the unveiling ceremony for the bronze statue of Indian sage Thiruvalluvar was held during the opening ceremony of the congress.
SINCE 1982
In 1982, Yu Hsi researches and develops “Art Multimedia,” which combines artistic creations, including philosophy, literature, fine art, music, photography, and computer multimedia technology. In 1986, Yu Hsi founds Poem Culture Corporation, a pure and fresh cultural organization, in order to benefit people with the true, the good, and the beauty of culture and art. Its cultural purport: “delivering a piece of refreshing news for the chiliocosm.” Its goal is to tame the turbulent discord within the universe, make wars stop and warriors rest, and allow humankind to live in peace.

Yu Hsi's first novel
With simple and earnest word images, Yu Hsi delineates this novel that is rich in childhood joy and innocence. It records a joyous path towards eternal truth. By deploying a highly intelligent writing technique, this allegorical novel has the circle of the four seasons (spring rejuvenation, summer prosperity, autumn harvest, and winter storage) reflecting the circle of human life (birth, growth, mellowness, and a consummate life). Collection of poems, Limited hardback edition
Thoughts don’t linger around the heart, thus they all converge toward the ocean. Rivers are raging and turbulent; however, thoughts will never turn into complete enlightenment unless they have wandered and ventured. Hence, traveling upon rivers is essential. The Sauntering Letter Fish searches for the ultimate source of life in the splendid world of material interests. At times abstracting or sublimating, the poems regain a unique sheen for ordinary matters. The poet entitles this collection Ūrṇā-keśa.

Yu Hsi’s New Poetry & Music
Yu Hsi regards life as a never-ending quest. Each person is symbolized as a grain of flower pollen voyaging from the Origin with intrinsic, positive force. With the pollution of temptations and changes in environment, each person must now meet different challenges in order to cleanse himself and attain the path back to the Origin.
